How can you learn contentment on difficult roads?

God wants His children to be happy, and to that end He disciplines us: He leads us along paths we do not want, but that He has prepared. The natural life, the root of all problems, can only be dealt with by the Cross. The Cross and the Holy Spirit work together: the Cross clears away what is harmful, and the Holy Spirit places in us the virtues and merits of the Lord Jesus Christ. Like Paul, we learn to be content in our circumstances.

This message is for you if…

  • you are walking paths you did not choose
  • you are looking for a happiness that lasts
  • you want to understand how God trains you

Summary

Can contentment grow on a difficult path? Beginning with Psalm 122:9, Pastor Xutene Wanakaija reflects on God's desire for His children and on the training that takes place within their lives.

The message contrasts passing happiness rooted in the natural life with what endures through the life of Christ. The Cross and the Holy Spirit work together to remove what is harmful and form the character of Jesus within us. Drawing on Paul's learned contentment, this reflection calls us to trust God in that inward formation. It keeps the Cross, rather than a promise of easy circumstances, at the center.
