What does it mean to be a new creation in Christ?
According to 2 Corinthians 5:17, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: what God wants for us is newness. But for there to be newness, the old must first be destroyed. Being born of water and of the Spirit is the judgment of the old creation and the entrance into the new life, just as the flood judged the earth before the dove could set its feet down. Since the new birth, the Holy Spirit and the Cross work hand in hand to clean out what is old in us, and newness is found in Christ, our life.
This message is for you if…
- you are born again and you want to live the newness God wants for you
- you feel that old things still remain in you
- you are going through a time when God is judging what is old and you need hope
Summary
Being a new creation in Christ calls us into a new way of living. Reflecting on 2 Corinthians 5:17, Pastor Xutene Wanakaija asks what must happen to the old life so that the new life can be expressed.
The message uses baptism and the flood as spiritual illustrations of judgment on the old creation and the beginning of something new. The Holy Spirit and the Cross work together to clear away what belongs to the old life. With the emphasis of Galatians 2:20, the pastor calls us to let Christ's life become the life we live.
