How can you love others as Jesus loved us?
The commandment to love already existed under the Old Covenant, but on tablets of stone, outside of man. What is new is that it is now within us, through the Holy Spirit who has brought the life of God into us. The natural life cannot fulfill it: like Jesus, we must set aside our natural life and make God’s life our life.
